After the success of the 2006 World Cup, a German theme will be the focus of the nation’s biggest Hogmanay celebration – replacing the previously proposed Canadian connection. Specialist food and drink will be on offer, including some of Germany’s most celebrated beers and wines, throughout the four days of the capital’s festivities featuring concerts, the famous street party and parades. Bars and restaurants will be encouraged to provide special menus to get into the spirit and it is hoped a German-themed market will be set up in the city centre.

Celebrated originally by Scots in the USA, especially in New York, and now also in Canada and Australia, Scotland’s Tartan Day commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320 and has become a major festival. A packed programme of activities around the country include the Rock Trust Kilt Walk in Edinburgh, the Best Dressed Shop Window Competition, the Angus Farmers’ Market ‘Tartan Style’, a Tartan Tea Dance and Dine With the King. Two of the biggest events are the glittering Scotland’s Tartan Day Gala Dinner (5 April 2007) and Scotland’s Tartan Day Business Breakfast Debate (6 April 2007), both held at the Carnoustie Golf Hotel.

?Living Food at Cawdor Castle?, which was successfully launched in 2006, is a celebration of organic food and now will include a section on environmental protection. Attended by some 3000 people last September, it set a bench mark for it?s quality of produce and administration, as well as providing education and information on healthy eating and local produce. Set in the spectacular grounds of Cawdor Castle the event, which this year takes place on Saturday 29th September from 10am ? 5pm and is part of Highland Feast, is fully supported by the Soil Association Scotland, the Highlands and Islands Organic Association, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Slow Food Movement. Wonderful organic food stalls will be complemented by top local chefs who will convert the food that is on sale into delicious taster lunches. All this will be supported by a programme of food and drink lectures and live music.

Entrance will be ?3 for adults (Children 16 and under free) and on production of ?Living Food? tickets at the Castle Kiosk entrance into the Gardens and Grounds of the Castle will be reduced from ?4 to ?1.

The annual World Porridge Making Championships for the coveted Golden Spurtle will take place in Carrbridge. Organised by the Carrbridge & Vicinity Community Council, the competition attracts entries from chefs, B & B owners, farmers and other keen porridge makers from throughout Scotland and further afield. The winner is the cook who is judged to have produced the best traditional porridge made from oatmeal, although their own special ingredients can be added. Entrants, the piper, millers and judges meet at the famous bridge for a complimentary dram to toast the porridge before proceeding to the Village Hall where the competition begins. Icelandair brings a taste of Iceland to Glasgow for the fifth successful year (2007) of the airline’s Icelandic Week. A series of events held at Princes Square shopping centre in Glasgow includes activities suitable for all ages. BBC Good Food Show Scotland

This Autumn, BBC Haymarket Exhibitions is bringing its highly successful BBC Good Food Show to Scotland for the very first time. Taking place at the SECC in Glasgow between 2 and 4 November, BBC Haymarket is confident that the show will be every bit as successful as its London and Birmingham counterparts.

The new show in Glasgow will be Scotland’s largest ever dedicated food and drink event with over 150 speciality exhibitors from the food, drink and kitchen/dining retail sectors. They will all be taking advantage of the opportunity to sample and, or retail their products to a dedicated food loving audience of over 15,000 during the all-important run up to Christmas.

The Show will include all the successful ingredients from the other Good Food Shows with a Scottish twist. Top celebrity chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, James Martin and Nick Nairn will be doing live demonstrations in The Winter Kitchen sponsored by Sainsbury’s. The Great British Food Festival will focus on quality home-produced food and Drinks, The Fine Wine, Beer and Spirits Show will give exhibitors the opportunity to showcase a selection of drinks for Christmas.
In addition, the BBC Good Food Show Scotland is running alongside the established Whisky Live, widely accepted as THE whisky tasting event of the year and which last year attracted over 3,000 visitors. Joint tickets to the two shows will be available.

Already booked are Wiseman’s Dairies who will be bringing a retro milk bar and Harvey Nichols who will be retailing and staging tasting sessions. Since 2000 Feis Ile has been run in conjunction with the distilleries of Islay and Jura and Port Ellen Maltings. Each distillery has its own open day, putting on special events. Islay has a wealth of musical talent which is very much in evidence at the ceilidhs, while mainland artistes are also brought to the island for the festival week.

Last year's cookery demonstrations were provided by Chairman of the Master Chefs of Great Britain George McIvor and fellow Master Chef Colin Bussey. The annual World Porridge Making Championships for the coveted Golden Spurtle will take place in Carrbridge. The winner is the cook who is judged to have produced the best traditional porridge made from oatmeal, although their own special ingredients can be added.
